Going, Going....GO! The Theater Project Auction
The Theater Project was founded by Al Miller in 1972, as a small traveling troupe of young actors who performed and taught throughout the state of Maine. 36 years later, and The Theater Project is still fulfilling its mission of changing young and old, enriching and inspiring their living, and providing a safe environment for original and dynamic exploration through theater education and performance.
Wendy Poole, who has worked at The Theater Project for the last 15 years as a teacher, actor, director, designer and production manager, was appointed as Executive Director last August. "I knew as soon as I set foot in The Theater Project that it was a very special place that I wanted to be a part of, " she said. "I've been so fortunate to have been a part of Al's vision of changing lives through theater. We've seen so many kids grow and benefit from their time here, so I want to do everything possible to make sure The Theater Project is here for another 36 years." And that means fundraising - in her time as Executive Director so far, Poole has coordinated wine-tastings, special fund drives, and largest of all, the return of The Theater Project Auction. "The last auction we had was at least 14 years ago, and it was such a fun event that I thought it was time to bring it back."
Join Al, Wendy, and the rest of the crew at The Theater Project Benefit Auction on Thursday, June 19 at the Brunswick Golf Club. Cocktails, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, cash bar and silent auction begin at 6:00 pm. The live auction, run by professional auctioneer, Charlie Crosby, will begin at 7:00 pm.
"We've been overwhelmed by the generosity and support we have encountered, especially from local individuals and businesses," says Board President Sheri Nadell. "And we're so excited that Charlie Crosby will be our auctioneer - his auctions are always incredibly lively events, not to mention wonderful fundraisers. It's going to be a great night."
Some of the exciting items up for bidding include a 2 seater plane ride over Bath, Brunswick and the coastline; a weekend cabin at Sugarloaf; a membership to the Maine Botanical Gardens; a walk-on role in a Theater Project production; even a baseball signed by Dustin Pedroia for the sports fans in the audience. Workout sessions and massages; gift baskets and gift certificates; jewelry, artwork, cooking lessons, and innumerable tickets to local theatrical productions - there will truly be something for everyone.
Perhaps the most unusual, and potentially the most coveted item available at the auction will be The Theater Project's one parking spot. "For anyone who has ever arrived just before a show starts, especially on a busy - or rainy - Friday night, and had to walk several blocks to get to the show, the value of this item is probably beyond measure." said Nadell. "I think the bidding will be fierce on this one!"
And just when they think the excitement is over, auction-goers can kick off their shoes and join in the dance party to celebrate the Theater Project, DJ'd by Charlie Crosby. "We figure, we'll all by hyped up and ready to blow off some steam, " says Poole. "What better time for a dance?"
Tickets are $20 each. Reserve your spot for this exciting event by calling The Theater Project box office at 729-8584, or visiting 14 School Street in Brunswick. All auction proceeds will benefit the Theater Project and the fantastic programs they offer for Mid Coast Maine young people.
