"Suggested price" - you see it on posters around town, in online event calendars and even in this newspaper. But what does "Suggested Price" really mean? At The Theater Project in Brunswick, their Pay-What-You-Want system means just that - patrons can choose how much, or how little, they pay for their tickets.
"Our suggested prices are guidelines for our audience, to help them know what we feel the value of the ticket is" says Theater Manager Joanna Patterson. "But they aren't mandates - we are really committed to selling tickets for any price. I often get apologies when people pay less than the suggested, but the fact is that unless you need change back, I don't even notice! I'm really just pleased when people choose to spend their evening with us at The Theater."
The Theater Project has even enabled Pay-What-You-Want on their online ticketing service, with a variety of price points available. So if the suggested price seems like too much for you, but you'd really like to see the show, pay a few dollars less. Students, seniors, families with young kids, and people with a little bit less due to the economic climate should all take note - you can still have a great night out at a live theater performance, and not bust your budget. After all, without audiences, there would be no performance!
Your next opportunity to take advantage of the Pay-What-You-Want system at The Theater Project will be July 10 - 26, when the Professional Ensemble presents David Lindsay-Abaire's comedy "Wonder of the World". The suggested price will be $18....but really, pay what you want!
