Pay – what – you – want

(Made possible by a grant from a component fund of the Maine Community Foundation)

This anthology was commissioned in response to the growing epidemic of bullying and the all-too-often tragic results. The plays are touching, imaginative, powerful, uplifting and funny. A botched chemistry experiment creates a horde of teenage zombie bullies. A teenager poignantly relates to his dad how a bullied classmate resorted to physical violence. Three dinosaurs at a museum surprise three bickering kids on a school outing. This collection of short plays will challenge, inspire and enlighten us and help us confront the issue of bullying in a constructive and creative way.

In Eurydice, Sarah Ruhl reimagines the classic myth of Orpheus through the eyes of its heroine. Dying too young on her wedding day, Eurydice must journey to the underworld, where she reunites with her father and struggles to remember her lost love. With contemporary characters, ingenious plot twists, and breathtaking visual effects, the play is a fresh look at a timeless love story.

"EXHILARATING!! A luminous retelling of the Orpheus myth, lush and limpid as a dream where both author and audience swim in the magical, sometimes menacing, and always thrilling flow of the unconscious." The New Yorker

Les Misérables, one of the world's greatest literary classics, sold out its first edition the day it went on sale in 1862. Since then, it has never been out of print. It has been filmed countless times and is currently the subject of a smash-hit international pop opera. It is the story of ex-convict Jean Valjean and his relentless pursuit by "law and order" police inspector Javert. Filled with fascinating vignettes of 19th-century France, the script boasts a brilliant cast of characters who weave an exciting tapestry of humankind at its best and worst.
