Biographies

Lisa D’Amour (Playwright) is one half of Pearl Damour, an OBIE Award-winning interdisciplinary performance company she runs with Katie Pearl. Lisa’s plays have been produced by theaters across the U.S., including the Women’s Project, Clubbed Thumb, Theatre of a Two-Headed Calf, New Georges (all in NYC), Salvage Vanguard Theater (Austin, TX), Catastrophic Theatre (Houston, TX), ArtSpot Productions (New Orleans, LA) and Children’s Theater Company (Minneapolis, MN). Lisa collaborates on site-specific performances. In 2008, Lisa created a performance for visual artist SWOON’s “Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea,” a flotilla of six boats created from salvaged materials that navigated the Hudson River, performing in riverfront parks from Troy, NY to New York City. Lisa’s play DETROIT, originally produced by Steppenwolf Theater Company, was a finalist for the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a finalist for the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. In 2008, she was awarded the Alpert Award for the Arts in theater and in 2011 she received the Steinberg Playwright Award. Lisa received her MFA in playwriting from the University of Texas at Austin and is a New Dramatists alumni. She lives with her husband, composer Brendan Connelly, in Brooklyn and New Orleans.

Brent Askari (Ben) has appeared in Wonder Of The World and Winter Cabaret at The Theater Project. TTP produced Brent’s full-length comedy Cocktails & Travails, winner the Neil Simon Festival's National New Play Contest, earlier in 2017. Brent’s most recent play, Hard Cell, was part of the 2017 PlayPenn Conference. Brent was part of HBO’s New Writers Project and has written scripts for production companies including Paramount Pictures, MTV, and Marvel Films. Brent has acted in theaters across Southern Maine and is a member of Mad Horse Theatre Company and the Stone Pinhead Ensemble. 

Shannon Campbell (Mary) This is Shannon's first time working at the Theater Project, she's excited to be acting in such a great space with a talented group of people.  Past roles include, Sharla in Killer Joe(Space Gallery); Jenny/Lisa Simpson in Mr.Burns, Chloe in the Ballad of Daphnis and Chloe, Mash in Stupid F**king Bird, Penelope Easter in The Totalitarians, Aunt Debra in Kimberly Akimbo. Shannon is a Mad Horse Theatre Company member. MHTC shows she's performed in include Mr. Burns, The Totalitarians, Stupid F**king Bird, Trevor, Lysistrata, Kimberly Akimbo, The Children's Hour, Joe Egg and Drunks. Shannon received her B.A. in Theater at USM and studied at Circle in the Square Conservatory in N.Y.C.

Lindsey Higgins (Sharon) is a director returning to the stage after a long hiatus, excited to be working with The Theatre Project for the first time.  Favorite roles include Duckling from Our Country's Good (Cut Glass Theatre, Seoul South Korea), Lavinia from Titus Andronicus (Seoul Shakespeare Company, South Korea),   and Lady Anne from Richard III (Seoul Shakespeare Company, South Korea).  Lindsey received her MFA in Theatre Directing from East 15 Acting School where she spent two years studying and directing devised and adapted theatre.  Her work has been produced regionally and academically at Etcetera Theatre (London UK), The Drayton Arms Theatre (London UK), Theatre Madness Festival (London, UK), University of Southern Maine, East 15 Acting School, Portland, ME, and Seoul, South Korea.  Lindsey served as the Artistic Director of Seoul Shakespeare Company in South Korea from 2010 - 2014 and has worked as a Teaching Artist for Acorn Productions, Wintergreen Arts Center, The University of Southern Maine Theatre Academy, and Seoul Shakespeare Company. Lindsey is the Producing Artistic Director of 60 Grit Theatre Company, which produces devised work in addition established plays.  The company is currently in pre-production for Tracy Lett's BUG to open in March 2018 in Portland, Maine. 

Christopher Price (Director/Scenic Designer/Frank) works in theater, radio and television as a director, an actor, a voice artist and a scenic designer. Maine credits include work with The University of Southern Maine, The Public Theater, Portland Stage Company, The Portland Symphony, The Portland Ballet, Mad Horse Theatre where he is a company member and here at The Theater Project where he most recently directed Cocktails and Travails, The Liar, Eurydice and Circle, Mirror, Transformation. He holds a Master’s Degree from The Harvard University Graduate School of Design. 

Barbara Truex (Sound Designer) lives in Windham and splits her time between playing, composing, teaching, sound design, and community radio. Her primary instruments are mountain dulcimer (acoustic and electric), ukuleles, guitars, and hand percussion. She performs regularly with Maine Squeeze (eclectic ethnic),The Dark Follies (vaudeville/dance), Le Bon Truc (traditional French) and hosts a weekly global music program on WMPG 90.9 in Portland.   www.barbtruex.com

JP Gagnon (Lighting Design) has been designing in Maine since 1993 and is the Resident Lighting Designer at The Theater Project, where he most recently designed THE LIAR,  JEKYLL & HYDE, THE ANZACS, UNCLE VANYA and EURYDICE, for which he won a PEER Award for Lighting Design.  Past work includes STUPID F*#!@NG BIRD for Mad Horse Theatre, LOVE’S LABOR’S LOST and KRAZY KAT for Bowdoin College, THE GLASS MENAGERIE and WORKING for City Theater, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE and THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD for USM, as well as many shows for Oak Street Theater, Acorn Productions and Mad Horse Theatre.  JP trained at The University of Southern Maine in technical theater and then served as Master Electrician for 2 seasons at Portland Stage Company   During the daytime, JP can be found managing High Output, Inc. which specializes in lighting for the entertainment industry.

Wendy Poole (Costume Design) when Wendy isn’t finding backyard BBQ costumes she is playing the role of Executive Director of The Theater Project. She has been fortunate enough to work at this beautiful space for 25 years. Wendy grew up in New York and studied acting at HB Studios with Uta Hagen and William Hickey and William Esper Studios before moving to Maine. She lives in Portland with husband Christopher Price and their two amazing daughters, Rowan and Tess.
